To help you get started, we’ve gathered important information and created an onboarding checklist outlining the essential steps and communications you’ll receive before starting on the team. Once you have completed the checklist below, you’ll be all set for your first day on the team!

Before Starting

Kootenai Health employees dress in scrubs, a specific uniform, or business casual attire. For clinical teams wearing scrubs, colors are designated based on specific roles.

Details about the dress code are in your Kootenai Health Essentials Guide, which you will receive during your pre-employment meeting in People Services. Once you start, our Professional Appearance Policy is also available on the Kootenai Intranet, known as the Kloud.

If you would like a copy of the Professional Appearance Policy in advance of your start date, please feel free to email us at careers@kh.org, and we will be happy to send it to you.

During your pre-employment meeting in People Services, you will receive a day-one parking pass to display in your car. On your first day, you can park wherever is most convenient for you.

Additionally, during orientation, your trainer will give you a parking sticker and more information about employee parking. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask!

Kootenai Health Essentials general orientation starts at 8:00 AM. You are welcome and encouraged to arrive a little early to enjoy some coffee and get to know your new team members. It’s an excellent opportunity to connect before the session begins!

The Kootenai Health Essentials general orientation is held in the Health Resource Center on the main Kootenai Health Campus. You can find a campus map here. The Health Resource Center is listed as #5 on the map. If you need help finding it, feel free to ask for assistance or stop by People Services, and a team member will be happy to walk you over!

You can request your department and ongoing schedule by contacting your direct supervisor or manager. Their contact information is provided on the cover of your Kootenai Health Essentials Guide. Organizational orientation class schedules are created and finalized by the end of the day on Wednesday of the week before your start date. Your leader will also contact you to share your schedule and any team-specific information you need before your start date. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

The Kootenai Health Essentials general orientation is provided for all new hires and rehires who have been away for over one year. In addition to this organizational onboarding, you will also receive team and position-specific training to ensure you’re fully prepared for your role. Please reach out if you have any questions about the orientation process!

Your manager or a designated team leader will come to the Kootenai Health Essentials general orientation to meet with you prior to lunch. They will also take you on a small tour of the campus, allowing you to get acquainted with the facilities and your new environment. It’s an excellent opportunity to connect, discuss your training, and ask any questions you may have!

Coffee, water, and lunch will be provided during the Kootenai Health Essentials general orientation. The team will supply everything needed for the classes, so you only need to bring something with you if you would like something specific. Just come ready to learn and engage!

If you’re feeling unwell on your first day, please email your manager, whose contact information is on the front of your Kootenai Health Essentials Guide. Additionally, include your recruiter in the email; their contact information is available in your offer letter. Upon receiving your email, we will reach out to you and work with you to reschedule your start date when you feel better. Your health is our priority, and we want to ensure you start your journey with us feeling your best!

Kootenai Health utilizes a variety of communication methods, including email and Outlook Teams, in addition to in-person communication. This approach helps ensure that everyone stays informed and connected, whether you’re in the office or working remotely. If you have any questions about using these tools, feel free to ask!

Key policies will be shared and reviewed during your pre-employment meeting in People Services. Once you start, you can also find organizational policies on the Kootenai Intranet, known as the Kloud. Expectations can vary depending on your specific role. Your leader will review position competencies with you, share your training and onboarding plan, and communicate any expectations to ensure you clearly understand what you need to succeed. Our goal is to help you onboard successfully while learning about your role, team, and available resources. If you have any questions or need clarification, don’t hesitate to ask!

If you have any questions, our team members are onsite to assist you Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 5 PM in the People Services office.

During the First Few Weeks

Kootenai Health paydays occur every other week on Friday. Depending on your start date and where you fall in the payday cycle, your first paycheck may include one or two weeks of pay. To find the date of your first paycheck, please refer to the cover of your Kootenai Health Essentials Guide. Our Onboarding Coordinator will have added the date for you. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out!

A comprehensive Kronos timekeeping training will be provided during your Kootenai Health Essential general orientation. During this session, we will cover everything you need to know about clocking in and out and share all the locations and methods available to ensure a smooth experience.

Benefits for full and part-time employees begin on the first of the month following your first 30 days of employment. You can find a detailed benefits timeline in your Kootenai Health Essentials Guide, which you will receive during your pre-employment meeting in People Services.

Additionally, benefit classes are available monthly, and you are always welcome to stop by People Services to speak with someone from our benefits team if you have any questions. We’re here to help!

During your orientation, we will provide training and resources for accessing all software and systems. Additionally, you will be assigned a preceptor with whom you can connect as you learn. They will be a valuable resource to help guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have. We’re committed to ensuring you feel supported as you transition into your new role!

During your onboarding, you will meet several new team members who are here to support you as you transition into your role. In your first few weeks, your key contacts will be your direct leader and your preceptor. They will be instrumental in helping you navigate your new environment and answer any questions you may have. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them for guidance and support!

Kootenai Health leaders provide formal feedback annually through employee evaluation conversations. Additionally, feedback is given routinely during rounding and scheduled check-ins. As a team, we value open communication and actively seek to provide constructive feedback to support your growth and development.

Kootenai Health provides many resources to support your professional growth. These include classes and training offered by the Culture and Learning team, tuition reimbursement programs, apprentice and certification programs, opportunities for internal mobility, and many others. We are committed to helping you develop your skills and advance your career within our organization.
