Shadow Opportunities

Job shadow opportunities are available for college students, healthcare professionals, and professionals from other organizations who require healthcare observation hours for educational programs, career exploration, or professional development.

The Health Care Summer Camp allows undergraduate college students majoring in health care professions to connect with mentors, gain insight into daily operations, and earn volunteer hours required for graduate-level programs.

Residency Programs

Residency programs at Kootenai Health offer hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world experience in a collaborative healthcare environment. From the Kootenai Clinic Family Medicine Residency to Nurse Residency and Pharmacy Residency programs, caregivers and learners are supported as they build confidence, expand clinical expertise, and prepare for long-term success in their careers.

Student Health Intern Program

Future PAs, NPs, and MDs can gain valuable hands on experience inside the Emergency Department while still in school. The Student Health Intern role provides opportunities to build patient care skills, support nursing and provider teams, and experience the fast paced world of emergency medicine. Interns assist with patient needs, procedures, transport, and care coordination while gaining insight into how an Emergency Department operates. Student Career Conference

The Student Career Conference at Kootenai Health offers students an interactive introduction to healthcare careers and is held on select days throughout the school year. Through hands-on activities, simulations, and connections with caregivers, participants explore a variety of clinical and nonclinical paths while gaining insight into future opportunities.

Teen Volunteer Program

The Teen Volunteer Program at Kootenai Health offers students ages 14 to 17 a hands-on introduction to healthcare. Volunteers build real-world skills like communication, teamwork, and professionalism while supporting a variety of hospital departments. It is a meaningful way to give back, explore career interests, and begin a path that many continue through education and careers in healthcare.

Teen Employment

If you are 16 or older, Kootenai Health offers a variety of jobs to help you get started. Roles include Barista, CNA, Guest Relations Associate, Nursing Assistant Apprentice, Patient Services Coordinator, Imaging Scheduler, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomist, Medical Receptionist, Materials Handler, Nutrition Technician, and more, with clear pathways to grow your career over time.

Project SEARCH

Program  Kootenai Health is a proud host of the Project SEARCH Program, a high school transition initiative that provides education and hands on training for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program is managed in partnership by local school districts and Vocational Rehabilitation, helping participants build job skills, gain workplace experience, and prepare for future employment opportunities.

For employees who are ready to take their first step into nursing, Kootenai Health also offers sponsorship opportunities through the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program. Kootenai Health covers the cost of the program for selected employees, providing an opportunity to gain valuable education and hands-on experience while building a foundation for a rewarding career in health care. The Advanced Practice Provider Student Practicum Program at Kootenai Health supports nurse practitioner, physician assistant, and other graduate-level healthcare students in completing supervised clinical rotations.
