Shaping the Future of Health Care

Kootenai Health is proud to partner with colleges and universities to provide meaningful clinical and educational experiences for students.

We welcome academic partners from a variety of health professions and appreciate your interest in providing students with educational experiences at Kootenai Health. To help us coordinate clinical placements efficiently, consistently and fairly, we ask that academic partners not contact individual Kootenai Health providers directly or guarantee prospective or current students a rotation with a Kootenai Health provider.

Instead, please complete the steps outlined below so our team can assess eligibility, availability and appropriate placement opportunities.

Health Care Student Placement

Overview

Participating in a clinical experience at Kootenai Health involves three key steps:

  1. Securing an affiliation agreement between the educational program and Kootenai Health
  2. Establishing eligibility to participate in a clinical experience
  3. Securing placement in the department

Affiliation Agreement

A current affiliation agreement must be on file with Kootenai Health before a student can receive a placement. This agreement outlines the parameters of the clinical experience, expected outcomes, as well as the individual responsibilities of each party.

Eligibility

Prior to the arrival of students, the student and/or program shall secure documentation pertaining to the following:

  • Immunizations (or completed exemption process)
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Drug Screening (if required for program)
  • Seasonal Influenza Vaccination (or completed exemption process)
  • Idaho Health and Welfare fingerprinting, required for clinical experiences in Kootenai Health Behavioral Health units
  • Current Idaho licensure/certification (if required for program)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Certification

Placement

Kootenai Health carefully evaluates each student placement request to determine availability and ensure an appropriate fit within a specific unit or department. To help us coordinate these experiences effectively, all student placement requests must include a designated faculty contact from the student’s academic institution.

Student Services works closely with academic partners and Kootenai Health departments to review requests and coordinate placements based on program requirements, departmental capacity and available learning opportunities.
